Forgiveness and Healing: -Miracle Stories part 3
Miracles - God Stories
As I have written about the Miracles in my life I have rejoiced in His great love as He so tenderly shows up with unbelievable miracles.
The common denominator in all of these stories is that they are actually God stories; They are about Him and what He did.
Come, let me tell you more about my Father God and the many Miracles He has performed in my life.
Walk alongside me as I recount the ways that the God of Miracles showed up with provisions beyond my wildest imagination.
In this hub you will read about two types of Miracle stories of God showing up in my life:
MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS - As a victim of child abuse I could not forgive the man who had caused untold misery and pain in my life. Only God could have given me the gift of forgiveness to give to my Dad.
HEALING MIRACLE - After a lifetime of trying to prove myself to my mother-in-law and feeling rejected, unaccepted and sometimes even despised I was given the gift of healing from her own lips. Only God could do this.
Forgiveness Miracles
MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS: God forgives: Forgiveness is first experienced, as a believer, when we receive this gift from God. "All we like sheep have turned away, we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Isa. 53:6. We are kind of dumb .. like sheep and though God has made it clear that He loves us and has provided a way to reconcile us to himself .. we like sheep wander away from His truth and love.
God's provision was Jesus who gave up his life that we might live .. eternally. "For God so loved the world that he GAVE His ONE AND ONLY SON, that whosoever (that's you - that's me) believes in Him will NOT perish but HAVE ever-lasting life. John 3:16
His forgiveness covers all of our sin. HE really forgives in a BIG way .. "As far as the East is from the West so far have I removed your sin from you." Ps.103:12. Can you tell me when does the East ever catch up with the West? Never - Exactly! When we believe and receive God's gift, our sin is GONE. God wiped it out the moment we accepted His son's sacrifice of his life for our sin.
In this writing I would like to tell you how God led me to forgive what I thought was unforgivable. Only God could do this.
A Heart That Forgives
Forgiving My Father
In part one of Miracle Stories I gave you a peek into my childhood and my home-life growing up. I never felt safe because of my Dad's Raging. At the age of 40 my Dad was in a horrific auto accident. They did not think he would live.
I remember being at my grandmother's house because my mom had to go to the hospital. I felt blank with no emotion at all for my Dad. I experienced deep guilt because I had no compassion for him. In truth I hated my Dad.
The end result of his accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. At the time I was actually relieved to know he could no longer get to us when his rage and fury erupted. Now we could run from him and he couldn't catch us or hurt us.
When I gave my life to Christ, I felt a knowing, (I now know was the Holy Spirit living in me) that hatred had no place in my heart. The intensity of this hatred was strangling me. I could not shake it. I prayed that God would take the hatred away.
A couple of years later God miraculously called me to go to a Christian College. I have warm and wonderful memories of this incredibly peaceful place. I settled in my dorm but continued to pray fervently that God would take the hatred away.
On one of my trips back home I had an experience that is nothing short of miraculous. After driving the three hour trip between college and home, I rounded the familiar corner and turned onto my street. I walked through the front door, up the stairs and into the living room. My Dad was sitting in his lazy boy with a big smile on his face. He was glad to see me. As I looked into my Dad's eyes a divine love for him, washed over me. I put my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly and knew that I loved him. It was a lifelong love which eventually led to healing in both of our lives. Only God could do this.
A Healing Miracle
MY MOTHER-IN-LAW
Coming from such a dysfunctional home, I was so excited to be part of a 'Christian' family. My husband loved me unconditionally and he treated me with respect and kindness. Upon meeting his parents I observed that his mom had a critical spirit but I tried not to dwell on it. I just swept it aside and covered it in grace.
After marrying my husband and as the years passed her angst toward me became crystal clear. I could do nothing right in her eyes. Many tears, heartaches and pain came from this relationship. I was baffled by her mean spirit and I could not process how a person, who claimed to love Jesus, could treat another person this way.
My husband had been taught to respect his elders and especially his parents. Eventually though, with the help of a faithful friend, he realized that his Mother had crossed the line and was, at times, downright abusive to me.
As his friend listened to a situation in which his Mother had cut me down and left me bleeding; this friend responded by telling him, "I would NEVER let my Mother treat my wife that way," Those words were the wake up call God used to take the blinders off my husbands eyes. It was the moment of truth for Gary and it hit him like a brick.
From that moment on Gary took a very strong stand and told his Mother that he would not tolerate any more of her put downs or criticisms toward or about me. She would, from time to time, try to revert to her critical spirit toward me - but Gary would always put her in her place.
Later, she told one of my children that Gary loved me too much ... Though she was trying to condemn her sons love for me .. she had no clue she had done the opposite. She actually testified to her sons commitment and loyalty to his wife.
When my husband took that stand I was able to relax a bit and feel safer in her presence. There was still an underlying tension floating in the air but I could function knowing that Gary would stand up for me.
CARING FOR PARENTS
For the last 15 years my husband has been the main caretaker for his parents. He has been a very faithful son as he looked diligently to all of their needs. The road was so rocky as we dealt with his parents developing dementia with mood swings, untrue accusations, fear and more. His Father looked to Gary as his protector and caretaker. Our whole family ministered and took turns caring for them. When Gary's Father was dying about 6 years ago my husband promised to take care of his Mother. It was a promise he kept to the end.
About a year ago my mother-in-law began experiencing mood swings in her assisted care facility. The workers were calling us day and night because she was uncontrollable. I suspected that her medication was not right. I knew her medical history and sensitivity to medications. We requested that they take her off a certain medication because she had reacted with aggression to it in the past. When they fought us on it, I told Gary to bring her here, we needed to help her.
During her time with us she was appreciative and pretty good with her tongue ... although once in a while she just couldn't help herself.
A LIFE CHANGING CONVERSATION
One day I saw her struggling to get to her room with her walker. She was so weak and frail. I observed that tears were rolling down her cheeks and that she looked distressed.
After she'd gotten settled in her room, I followed after her. I knelt in front of her, took her hands and as I searched her eyes I asked, "What's wrong mom?" She answered me with trembling voice and through choking tears, "You don't want me here!" I smiled softly at her as I said, "Mom that is not true. In fact, do you know that I am the one that wanted you to come here?" She shook her head no. I explained the situation she was in at the home and described why I had come to this decision. I told her that I was glad she was with us - and I meant it. Tears began to roll once more as she bawled her heart out saying, "But I am so mean! " I couldn't help the chuckle rising from my belly as I said, "Yes, mom, you can be mean, but we still love you."
MIRACULOUS AND HEALING WORDS
It was then she spoke these miraculous and very healing words. Words which flowed from her mouth into my wounded heart. She spoke with such tenderness and sincerity as she said, "There is nobody like you, nobody is as kind and sweet as you." I hugged her close until her crying ended. What a gift to me - a miraculous gift of healing. Only God could do this.
Thank God for His Love and Faithfulness
So many blessings and lessons were gleaned from these miracles of God. God's love and faithfulness screamed out to us through these miracles and we were forever changed.
His tender love and attention to our needs, and sometimes desires, just blows me away. He is so loving and gracious and kind.
Lest you think my life has been filled only with one miracle after another - let me tell you I have served my time in the wilderness too. It is a dry and thirsty land where I learned lessons I could learn no other way. Even in the wilderness there were miracles of God as He showed me great mysteries and He disciplined me in areas I was weak; making me stronger.
He is an Amazing and personal God and I thank Him for All of the Miracle Stories of my life.
